In the Documentary Photography we were admonished to go out on the streets corner and just take pictures of random things.
Street Photography focuses on random subjects. It reflects on candid images and situations of people and objects within public places.
Street photography is a type of photography that features subjects in candid situations within public places. Street photographs are mirror images of society, displaying “manipulated” scenes, with usually unaware subjects.

Evaluation
When evaluating my self-portaits I found the process interesting for me because it made me happy and and it brought anticipation of the prospect of what the photographs might be. It gave me a view of looking at myself wearing different costumes and dressing up a bit, which I don’t do very often. It made me feel great and reacquainted me with my youth when I used to sing a lot and dress up for performance. It gave me a sense of self-worth. I use to do a lot of singing and that felt an important part of me. It is why I came to England, to sing at a church concert in 1999. At that time I also travelled to America and lots of other Caribbean islands like the Cayman Islands and the BVI, Antigua, Montserrat. Taking these self-portraits allowed me to step back into time, remembering dressing and changing for different performances.
I was happy with the outcomes of the self-portrait studio shoot, although I know if I had worn make-up it probably would have looked more outstanding. But I do enjoy the feeling of natural beauty.
Taking street photographs came quite naturally to me. I’m just drawn to different ideas. For instance, I’ll walk past a shop and see an interesting display in the window and I suddenly get an impulse to capture the image. Or I might be walking in the street and see a pigeon hobbling along and then I’d follow it around and take pictures. Another interesting view I had while doing street photography was that of a man riding a skateboard in the middle of the street. On impulse I turned around and captured the image. I like this kind of photography because it’s all about capturing the moment and wanting to share that moment with the viewer, getting them to participate in that special moment.
Some of my street pictures were over-exposed due to bright contrasting light and I had to adjust them by adjusting the exposure compensation dial. I used manual focusing and eventually most of my pictures were well focused. I enjoyed taking reflections in windows as it gave more depth to the picture. Some of my compositions could have been improved by ensuring cars were not in the way. I liked taking pictures at an angle, however, even if they look a bit odd to some people.
